Ten years of Ecosystems Knowledge Network – and a year of shared impact
Last year marked ten years since Ecosystems Knowledge Network became a registered charity. Over the past decade, our work has grown alongside a diverse community of people and organisations committed to a shared ambition: enabling wellbeing and prosperity for everyone through a healthy natural environment.
That anniversary felt like a natural moment to pause, reflect, and take stock of what we achieved together over the past year.
A year of learning, connection and practical insight
Over the last year, we continued to focus on what EKN exists to do best: sharing know-how, building understanding and connecting people across sectors to help turn environmental ambition into real-world outcomes.
Bringing people together through events
This year we organised and contributed to a wide range of events and conversations designed to bring learning to life and connect people working across disciplines. This included:
- Business and practitioner seminars in Oxfordshire and Liverpool, helping connect projects with private sector and delivery partners
- The Northern Nature Culture and Place Forum, showcasing how the natural assets and cultural richness of the North of England can be enhanced together
- A programme of webinars exploring themes such as nature investment standards, creating places for people and nature, and the role of local government and private sector
- Continued regional engagement in Wales, through our Welsh Forum and our event Financing an Environment for Wales
- The Nature Finance UK Conference 2025, bringing together over 400 practitioners, policy-makers, investors and innovators to share learning and challenge thinking
Together, these activities supported people working across many fields — from environment and finance to planning, infrastructure, health and economic development — to learn from each other and apply knowledge in practice.
Resources and learning
Alongside our events programme, our online resources continued to reach and support a wide audience:
- Our Nature Finance Learning Hub was accessed 4,200 times, supporting learning at the intersection of environment, finance, policy and delivery
- We put a spotlight on over 120 projects supported by the Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund (NEIRF), through our interactive projects map and video profiles
- We hosted 10 public webinars during 2025, while our full webinar library – now with 50+ sessions – was accessed over 3,000 times
- Our online Tool Assessor, a free resource bringing together key evidence and tools on the value of the natural environment, was accessed over 17,000 times
- We published the Nature Finance UK Review 2025, in association with Kana Earth
- We continued to share news, events and new resources through our website and e-newsletters
Looking ahead
As we move beyond our tenth anniversary, we’re looking forward to continuing to grow, adapt and support our members.
In the year ahead, we’re planning:
- More public webinars, starting with Permanence, Financing, and Scalability – How Insurance Can Be the Vital Key to Unlock and Secure the Future of Nature on January 15th
- Continued regional engagement and partnership working
- New learning resources and case studies
- A renewed HALO Hub for practitioners working in the nature tech space, including an updated forum page and refreshed exclusive content
- Further events and convenings, including Nature Finance Conference 2026
