About

There is growing attention on the role of the private sector in responding to the state of ‘nature’, not least because of its connectedness with climate action. Everyone, not least the private sector itself, needs to set realistic expectations for what businesses big and small can do. Two new outputs from business sustainability specialist Will McDonald provide insight on the spectrum of activities under the banner of nature finance, how land managers can engage and a realistic view on how the private sector can respond on nature.

Will McDonald brings extensive experience in sustainability and public policy, working across sectors to help companies, NGOs, and policymakers deliver better outcomes for nature and climate.

He spent ten years at Aviva, where, as Group Director of Sustainability and Public Policy, he helped lead the company’s world-leading sustainability strategy. Prior to that, Will spent a decade in Westminster, including roles as a Special Adviser at HM Treasury and the Department for Work and Pensions.

Will also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Conservation Management, reflecting his deep commitment to environmental issues. His recent work focuses on the emerging field of nature finance, exploring how land managers can engage and what a realistic private sector response to the nature crisis might look like.
