Nature Finance UK Review 2025

Private sector interest in the environmental outcomes arising from the restoration of land and water continues to grow. This includes participation in voluntary markets for carbon removal and flood risk reduction. At the same time, the compliance market for offsite biodiversity net gain linked to built development is expanding in England, with a parallel scheme proposed for Scotland.

Hundreds of land and coastal managers are now seeking to earn income through these nature markets. However, they face significant challenges in bringing projects forward, securing buyers, and navigating emerging market requirements. As a result, there is a pressing need for all parts of nature markets to better understand how this pipeline of projects is developing, how ready projects are to trade, and what sales activity is taking place.

In response, the Ecosystems Knowledge Network (EKN), in association with Kana Earth, has published its second UK Nature Finance Review. Building on the 2023 Nature Finance Review, this latest report provides an updated picture of the supply of nature finance projects across the UK, including their stage of development, routes to market, and the enterprise support they are accessing.
