Multi-Agency Geographic Information for the Countryside (MAGIC) is a central UK-wide open-access source of geographic information about the natural environment.

MAGIC provides authoritative geographic information about the natural environment from across government. The information covers rural, urban, coastal, and marine environments across Great Britain with over 400 datasets. This represents data from 30 different organisations including Natural England, Defra, Environment Agency and Historic England.

The focus of the habitat network maps included is to identify locations where habitat ‘clusters’ together within the landscape. This aims to identify locations for action to improve the ecological resilience of the network. Guidance published by Natural England demonstrates uses of MAGIC and mapping the connectivity between habitats.

Natural England manage the tool under direction of a Steering Group of partnership organisations, producing regular updates to datasets and interactive maps.
