Condatis is an online decision support tool to identify locations in which habitat creation and restoration can have the greatest benefits for existing habitat networks and increase connectivity across landscapes.

Condatis identifies the pathways that allow both dispersal and multiplication of species as they cross a landscape, as well as ranking of sites for habitat creation and restoration. The tool can also pinpoint bottlenecks in the habitat network and allows new habitat to be added to test the impact of habitat creation in precise locations.

Building effective ecosystem networks may require the creation of new habitat or restoration of existing sites. Policy makers and nature conservation practitioners are increasingly thinking about conservation and biodiversity at large spatial scales, but continuing development leads to decisions regarding prioritisation of habitat creation, restoration, and even loss.

It has been developed by the University of Liverpool for use in the UK and globally, currently released as Version 1.2.

Case Studies
  • There are several UK case studies listed here, including use by Natural Resources Wales to show connectivity pathways between areas of broadleaved woodland throughout Wales.
