UKCEH Nature Positive Future Programme: Chichester Harbour Field Meeting
Leading not-for-profit research institute, the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, is offering a field visit to Chichester Harbour -a frontline project demonstrating large-scale approaches to nature restoration. UKCEH will also be demonstrating new methodologies for planning and verifying nature positive investments to drive nature recovery. The meeting is being organised with the support of the Ecosystems Knowledge Network.
This field meeting offer professionals from financial services and corporate affairs a special opportunity to see, first hand, and engage with projects demonstrating large-scale approaches to carbon capture, biodiversity recovery and nutrient storage through the improvement of ecologically important subtidal and intertidal habitats at Chichester Harbour (border of West Sussex and Hampshire).
In support of the growing need for planning and verification of nature positive investments, the event will demonstrate a variety of new monitoring technologies including autonomous biodiversity monitoring systems using Artificial Intelligence and advanced greenhouse gas flux towers.
Chichester Harbour Protection and Recovery of Nature (CHaPRoN) is a long-term partnership initiative to help respond to the increasing pressures on Chichester Harbour.
Aiming to increase biodiversity, protect fragile coastal ecosystems whilst connecting local people and communities, the project will initially focus on three crucially important habitats – saltmarsh, seagrass beds and native oyster beds.
Overview
The day will involve:
- showcasing the work of CHaPRoN restoring saltmarsh, seagrass beds and native oyster beds.
- Discussion with CHaPRoN professionals and engagement around their work and how it is being delivered in a complex regulatory, funding and investment environment.
- Demonstrations of monitoring technologies including the Greenhouse Gas emissions monitoring ‘Flux tower’ and peat cameras.
Key speakers will include UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology scientists as well as guest speakers from CHaPRoN.
The day is free of charge but transport costs are not covered. The nearest train station is Chichester and we would be more than happy to arrange a pickup from the station.
Lunch and refreshments are provided.
