Environmental Improvement: What’s changing for business?

The relationship between UK businesses and the natural environment is changing. From water scarcity to the management of residual greenhouse gas emissions, private sector organisations across all sectors are understanding their risks and dependencies relating to land, water and nature. Forward-thinking businesses are recognising that contributing to environmental improvement does not need to be a burden. Instead, this can be a strategic opportunity that meets business needs.

Ecosystems Knowledge Network has produced a guide to help businesses find advantage in this transition. This has been prepared in partnership with with Defra, the Environment Agency, and Natural England. It has been informed by the work of the Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund throughout England.

The guide highlights how businesses of all sizes can gain advantage by proactively playing a part in environmental improvement. It sets out how this can be done through the procurement of verifiable outcomes—such as carbon and biodiversity credits, as well as flood risk reduction.

Are you involved in a business in the UK? If so, use the guide to explore how your business can find competitive advantage in the transition to a net zero, climate resilient and nature-rich economy.
