The Future Planning - Designing Places in a Climate Emergency Conference will take place in Glasgow on 8th October 2019. We are pleased to have an amazing array of expertise to contribute to the programme. Here we list the contributors to the opening session.
Conference chairperson: Martin Valenti
Head of Strategic Initiatives, Scottish Environment Protection Agency. Currently on Secondment to Scottish Enterprise
Martin has over 30 years’ experience in a variety of senior management roles. He has significant experience in environmental, economic and regulatory policy including project managing major projects and initiatives. He has successfully delivered high profile projects for the Scottish Government on environmental noise, contaminated land and climate change. More recently, he served a four-year secondment as Project Director for Scotland's 2020 Climate Group and played an instrumental role in setting the group up.
Opening kenote speaker: René Sommer Lindsay
Architect/Urbanist, R|S|L|ENT - Resilience, Sustainability, Liveability
René is an architect, urban designer and strategic planner with the ambition of creating sustainable cities and with a special interest in co-creation and participatory urban regeneration. He worked with the City of Copenhagen for nearly 10 years ending as director of the Copenhagen Climate Resilient Neighbourhood project – Klimakvarter – which has since become a showcase of climate adaptation in Copenhagen. Following this, he was involved with mainstreaming the delivery of a further 300 “cloud burst” management projects. René currently lives in Edinburgh, UK, where I work as an urban design consultant with Sustrans and take on occasional assignments as R|S|L|ENT working with – and speaking about – urban design, climate adaptation, co-creation and Placemaking Infrastructure.
