Description: 
Creation of 75 hectares of woodland on site of the former Coegnant Colliery and Maesteg Washery in the upper Llynfi Valley.

Aims of the project/initiative: 
  • Improve the health and well-being of the local population
  • Reduce flood risk
Progress so far: 

The project has secured a grant from the Welsh Government's Nature Fund, with a landscape architect appointed to develop a masterplan for the new woodland. 

In 2016 60,000 trees were planted. Walking trails have been created, as well as an all ability route and cycle trail. 

Future plans include seating areas, a green gym trail, a running trail and a dog activity trail.
