Following the successful JNCC project to create a spatial framework for ecosystem service mapping and analysis, Environment Systems are hosting an event at its offices at Harwell, Oxfordshire which will focus on using the SENCE Toolkit to support the ecosystem approach (including ecosystem services) as an aid for decision making.

This month’s free webinar will focus on tools to capture environmental information such as ecosystem services and natural capital.  There will be presentations on two tools currently being used, and a consultation on a new method for helping people select tools to use, the 'Tool Assessor'.

Natural Flood Defences meeting

Natural Flood Defences: what works, who pays and can biodiversity benefit too?

This meeting will attempt to address the questions "who pays? And for exactly what?" with regards to natural flood defences.  It will be led by Barry Gardiner MP, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on biodiversity.

Round 3 PES Pilots Completed

The Defra round 3 PES pilot projects have been completed and the final reports are now available.  See our PES Pilots webpage

This third round of PES pilots aimed to continue the progress made in rounds 1 and 2, and develop understanding of PES markets as set out in the White Paper and PES Action Plan.  These pilots seek to test PES in new contexts, including biomass energy, flood management, and urban and peri-urban settings.
